Top Five BREAKING BAD Theories
Breaking Bad was basically like a movie, but way longer and with way more characters. There was so many twists and turns, it was like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only with kind of more realistic stuff added in. If you think about it, Breaking Bad is basically another Marvel Cinematic Universe, because there’s another show called Better Call Saul that takes place in the same universe, and there’s a movie called El Camino.
Basically, there are tons of plotlines and potential easter eggs just like you would find in any other cinematic universe, but also like a video game. There’s lots of theories and analyzing done for these things, but nobody has ever done a list about Breaking Bad! Here, I will chronicle the top five theories about the Breaking Bad universe based on my intensive research and watching the show again while in quarantine. See what you think and if you don’t agree, well that doesn’t mean I’m wrong so don’t bother telling me about it because I don’t care.
- Breaking Bad: The Rise of Farley?
One amazing thing Breaking Bad did was put in these little things that didn’t do anything until way later. There is a potential theory that one of these so called “Checkoff’s” plot lines was the possibly devious Farley, introduced in season 1 episode 5 “Gray Matter”.
Stupider viewers may write this off as a completely meaningless character featured for less than a minute in an episode from when the show was still in its infancy. However, eagle-eyed viewers will note some curious (and potentially deadly for Walter) character traits about Farley. First, Farley seems to know Walter from his science days, so we know Farley is probably at least as intelligent. This already puts Farley ahead of even foes such as Gustavo Fring. Second, Farley tells Walter that he needed help with a “protein crystal problem” of some sort. This could easily be a case of the writers simply trying to add some element of realism to the scene, however, proteins are involved in how drugs work, and crystals are what meth is made of. Farley says Walter used “synchrotrons” to make these crystals. Could these synchrotrons be the key to why Walter’s great meth is blue? And if so, could Farley’s inside knowledge pose a threat to Walt? Some may write him off, but since Gretchen and Emilio were in the last episode, and since they were introduced the same time as Farley, perhaps the writers were just a little too shy to throw Farley’s dangerous expertise into the ring. We do know that Gail was a student at a university from some episode in season 4, so my theory is that Farley was working with Gail and pulling the strings to manipulate Walter, and his evil would only be exposed after killing Hank, but the show was cancelled before that could happen unfortunately.
2. Breaking Bad Super Heroes?
Breaking Bad is a show lauded for its realism and mature themes. Despite this, some feel the show could use a dash of extra craziness, to make the show even better. One theory is that the seeds for this were lain by the ever clever writers, and that in Season 6 we would have seen the rise of the SUPER HEROES! The show has been teasing the characters gaining superpowers for a long time.
Basically Walter’s meth is so good it’s almost giving people super powers, but only certain people exposed to the right chemicals, like Walter and Jesse. An explosion blows up the lab and they get exposed to this chemical that helps make meth. Then the lab gets shut down and they can’t get out! They don’t have anything to eat so they eat the meth (in behind the scenes they say that Walter’s meth tastes just like rock candy so they would eat it because that was the only thing available). By consuming that and mixed with the chemicals, you get super heroes!
Some people may say this is absurd or ridiculous, but you tell me why they would keep bringing this up. Walter’s cancer has been healed and come back so many times too, which I believe was an underlying plot thread that was going to show he was getting strong from the meth. Hank also was really strong, like the Thing (he looks like the guy who played the Thing in the movies), possibly because of his exposure. Say what you will, but adding characters with super abilities would shake up the show, and the writers clearly agree because they put all of this stuff in the show, showing their love of comic book movies. If Vince Gilligin (who was obsessed with making the show like an old book or something) was gone and the show was just handed over to the Walking Dead guys, maybe this could have happened.
3. Breaking Bad: The Rise of Louis?
Another Checkoff character is Walter Jr.’s friend name of Louis. Louis is basically this kid who is a friend of Walter Jr.’s and gets into trouble with him. However, an eagle eyed viewer will notice some very strange things about the so called Louis…
One minute Louis looks like this (Gray Matter, same episode as Farley!):
The next he looks like:
Uh…what??? Keep in mind the creators of the show are basically like Quintin Tarantino, who is always super careful about making movies and doesn’t make mistakes! The Breaking Bad creators would NOT have made this kind of mistake. The popular theory is that Louis 2 killed Louis 1, and took his identity. Because Walter Jr. is an idiot, he didn’t notice. Louis 2 subtly worked behind the scenes to subvert Walter’s authority, suggesting Junior rename himself “Flynn”. I looked it up, and “Flynn” comes from Irish “Flann”, meaning “ruddy or red”, like Louis’ hair! By naming Junior after himself, he claims psychic power over his soul and demeans Walter’s masculinity, allowing his dominance over the will of the junkies who consume Walter’s product. Think this is unrealistic? I have one word for you: Todd. Todd is another ginger character, and his last name is Alquist, which may have something to do with Louis. My theory? Todd was originally going to be Louis. Louis 2 would have killed Louis 1 to get close to the Blue Sky operation, biding his time before stealing the operation. Louis is definately a season 7 onwards villain, and would have been very interasting to see Walter and Jesse go up against. Todd may also be a clone or spawn of Louis, whose psychic energy became unstable following the overconsumption of Walter Jr. (which explains Walter Jr.’s abject stupidity). This is definately a crazy theory, but the writers are smart, and they would love to pay homage to Martin Scoresesse’s “The Irish Man” or some of Tarantino’s films.
4. Walter White Lives!
Walter White is ranked with Tony Soprano, Fred Flintstone, and Ted Bundy as the great television males. Based on this, it would be so stupid to kill him off in only five seasons of the TV show he’s in! By keeping him alive, it leaves him open to appear in spinoffs, like Tony Stark appearing in Spider-Man. Think about it: how cool would it be if Saul Goodman is in court, making a crazy case, and he looks over to the jury…IT’S WALTER FREAKING WHITE! That could just be a good side joke, at least let us know he’s out these cooking more meth! My theory is that he is still alive, based on a few key clues. First, in “El Camino” they mention that Walter is dead on the radio. But if you think about it, Walter has always been five steps ahead. By making the cops think he was dead and making them say it on the radio, he basically has a free ticket to get out and start a new life. Walter’s way too smart to just lay there and die. We know Walter has treated wounds on himself before, so its possible he used his science knowledge to make a chemical band-aid that he poured on the gun shot wound, which healed him so he could get out. The second obvious clue is when Vince Gilligin kept saying Walter was dead. They did the same thing with Infinity War saying all the snapped heroes were dead, but they really weren’t, which makes me think Vince is hanging on to his cards for a potential epic sequel…
5. In Season 4 Episode 3 Walter is Spying On Jesse By Staying Overnight and Sleeping Inside of His Apartment During All the Partying.
The proof is in the pciture :-) :
This is clearly Walter! I don’t know why he’s here because this is never addressed again. My theory? This is part of a plotline where Walter was going to be a good dad figure, and was partying with Jesse’s lifestyle to try and get to know him. This is also a perfect way to be hidden from Gus while having fun. They ditched this plotline, but this forgotten remnant remains. Remember that it was me who found this because I think this is a really good easter egg/hidden thing that could be in a YouTube video or something.
BONUS: BREAKING BAD BABIES.
Another possible theory is a new animated show aimed towards the more younger viewers that was all about younger and friendlier versions of the characters. There would be lessons in it about not doing drugs. Think this is stupid? Well, they did a Mexican version of the show, so I don’t see why animated spinoffs is so crazy. I think it will go back in time and show the youngsters and how they got formed into the people they are, with plenty of humor from Skinny P and Badger as “the greatest asassins”, who act tough but always do stupid stuff. There isn’t any evidence for this theory, I just like it.
